We Wish You a Merry Christmas

As this year is quickly approaching its end, I wanted to squeeze in one more post about out Christmas.  We officially ended our Christmas celebrations earlier this morning with some of Ash's family and we can officially call it a wrap.  This has been my most favorite christmas this year for several reasons.  For starters, my children are all at very fun (and different ages) but they were all very in it.  Lynlee didn't really get it but she knew something was going down because Lanman and Lucy were so excited.  From christmas bedtime stories to the elf...the whole christmas season was magical.

Our official christmas celebrating began 3 days before actual Christmas when Grandaddy arrived in his sleigh aka his car with a u-haul attached to the back.  :)  That meant a whole lot of fun for everyone.  I'm not sure how long we spent opening gifts but it took a while.  This was the pile we had to get through!

After all the gift opening we had our first christmas dinner at The Fish Market downtown...yum!  We had planned on Zoolight Safari afterwards but dinner took longer than expected and we were all worn out from the fun earlier in the day.  So we took a loooong way home looking at christmas lights on the houses.  The kids had a slumber party with grandaddy and Sue, woke up to breakfast, and then our first christmas guests left in a flash.  Kids played with all of their new toys and Ash and I did a whirlwind cleaning job just in the knick of time.  Grammy arrived shortly after noon in her own sleigh.  :)

Since it was Christmas Eve we attended Christmas Eve service.  Every past year, Ashley and I somehow have attended the Candlelight Service at out church.  It is one of the most beautiful services ever and we certainly missed it this year.  However, our service was pretty sweet and told the story of Chirts's birth with all of the children playing the part.

Afterwards, we had our dear friends, Rob, Dani & Sophia over for our Christmas Eve dinner, which this year  I kept it easy breezy with speghetti.  :)  We got the reindeer food sprinkled on the lawn...

checked Santa's whereabout on the new iPad and got the kids all snuggled in bed.  Ash and I finally got to bed around midnight.  To our surprise it was Landon up bright and early at 6am.  We made him lay in bed with us while we waited for the girls to wake up and we both dozed off to sleep.  I'm pretty sure Landon just laid there staring at the ceiling.  :)  poor guy.  Once everyone was up and the coffee was going, the kids came out to see what Santa brought.  And the madness ensued.  :)  Once they went through Santa's gift, Papa arrived with his.  We did a little present opening, ate breakfast, opened a few more gifts and visited while we could.  Papa had church to get to, so his visit was short and sweet.  We opened gifts all morning...seriously.  I don't think we stopped until naptime.  :)  This is what our living room looked liked afterwards.

That evening Ash and  I hosted the rest of my family for Christmas dinner.  Mimi, Bo, Rett, Holley, Scott, Mary Ashton, and Durham joined us.  We opened the last of the gifts of the day from  Mimi and enjoyed dinner.  Of course with this family something always goes down.  This year was no exception...one of my dining room chairs completely gave out and Bo came crashing down.  ha!  One of Landon's bigger gifts was a trip to Disney with his cousins D and Mae, and his Mimi and Rett...we made sure to capture that moment.

And today we celebrated with Ashley's cousin, Josh and his sweet wife and baby boy, who is Lucy's age.  We don't see them often at all so when we do get to visit its always a fun time!

Santa Clause is in Town

Santa may be in town, but we have yet to see him.  But thats not say we haven't tried!  :)  Our first attempt was a trip to the mall on Saturday night.  What!?!?  Well, to my defense, Ash and Landon were ringing the Salvation Army bell outside of Macy's from 5-6 so I thought it would ne nice to make a night of it and have dinner in the food court and then  see Santa with the kids.  Ummmm...what was I  thinking!?  The place was packed, there were no tables in the food court, and when we finally snagged one, there were no chairs.  Ash had to walk around stealing them from other tables, while I stood guarding out table with Landon "helping" Ash, Lucy running wild (literally!) and Lynlee screaming to be let down.  Fun times.  After eating I had return to make at Belks.  So we hurried over there and while I made the return, Ash was chasing kids all over the store and under the clothes racks...

Thankfully the line to see Santa had shrunk considerably to what seemed to be not much of a line at all.  So we hurried and got in place.  Well the line you could see was short, but then there was the curtain with a whole other line that wound around.  Anyhow, we most definitely entertained everyone else waiting to see ole Santa.  My kids were playing chase and running around in circles around the whole set up.  Lynlee was turning around in circles and would decide to join in the game of chase, until she realized she couldn't see me and then would come running back to me in the line.

There was this balloon store right beside the line (of course) with these crazy walking animal balloons, that Ash thought would help keep our kids calm.  Ummm, what was he thinking!?  They just chased each other while holding on to the balloon wacking people in the face with the dang thing and fighting over who got to hold it.  Lynlee was pissed she didn't get her own and kept going over there and grabbing her own balloon and running off with it.  The salesman was pretty nice about it.  The whole scene had to be comical, but after what seemed like forever, we got what we came for...

A Tennessee Thanksgiving

Well here I am again, weeks after and just now blogging about an event.  We are in full swing of christmas time and all the holidaze craze it brings.  But before I can blog about any of that, I want to catch up on our thanksgiving.  This year, we made our way north to Tennessee to spend our thanksgiving holiday.  Ash took off a day of work and we were able to get on the road a day early towards Paris to grandaddy's house.   We made great time and were welcomed with an early christmas gift...

I had merely metioned that it would be fun to find some 4-wheelers to ride on the farm, and grandaddy in his usual fashion made sure it happened. ha!  From the minute we arrive, Landon and his cousin rode and rode...

The next day was Thanksgiving.  The day was spent cooking and was truley a group affair, with everyone pitching in on one dish or another. Ash and Lynlee fried the turkey together...

and it turned out beautifully. :) Seriously, that is a pretty turkey.

and it was all too delicious.  Thanksgiving is quickly becoming my favorite holiday.  The day was so carefree and relaxed.   I yet again attempted Black Friday shopping.  In Paris Tennessee you are pretty limited to stores, in fact I think it was just good ole Wal-Mart.  And once I got there, I yet again decided that Black Friday really isn't for me.  I instead made my way back to the house and  went  to bed.  But not before seeing this ...  :)

On Friday, the boys woke up and went deer hunting.  They got all snug in long johns and layers and layers of clothes and headed out for the deer stand.  They came back mid morning with their prize...

Lucy wasn't sure what to think about it...

And Landon was good just to hold a gun. Landon will never be a die hard hunter nor will he be a doctor  He got naseaus when they gutted the deer and could not even look.  He wouldn't even hold the antlers for a photo...ha.   But he insisted he had a good time and wants to do it again, just so long as he doesn't have to gut the deer...hmmm.   The rest of our Paris visit included a little bit of everything; playing outside to petting some farm animals.

After Paris, our next stop was Nashville where we squeezed in a short visit with Grammy and a Titans football game.  The forecast was grim and when we checked the weather at the stadium, this is what we saw.

My sister in laws response to that was "damn!".  :)   But we knew going in that rain was inevitable and we came prepared with rainboots, jackets, gloves, and most importantly, ponchos!

I was quite cozy until half time.  At that point, my gloves and shoes were wet and soaking through and I was cold and cranky.  Luckily, the game got close and came down to the last minute, literally, and for a brief time I forgot all about being so cold.  Titans won and it was the perfect way to end our trip. We grabbed a quick bite at Cheesecake Factory and surprised Grandaddy with a rendition of happy birthday and a slice of cheesecake.

And then we packed up and headed home.  We had a wonderful Thanksgiving and were reminded how much we have to be thankful for!!
